The Way West

(about 110 pages, four women, two men. I’d say a dark comedy.)

Mom: ‘Sometimes when things are bad, you do best not to realize what is the reality of the situation. That’s prairie wisdom.’

PIONEERS 2

The Way West takes place now. In California. I guess I say that below, too.

The picture above may be misleading, and for that I apologize. It’s a picture of pioneers, and pioneers are talked about in this play.  Here’s a description:

The Way West tells the story of a modern-day, falling-apart California town, where Mom shares with her two squabbling daughters death-defying tales of pioneer crossings as she waits for her bankruptcy to come through. Stories are stretched, songs are broken into, and checks are forged as Mom and her grown girls scrape for survival.

Here is a another picture:

That’s Didi O’Connell, Zoe Perry,  and Caroline Neff, who starred in the production at Steppenwolf in Chicago. The formidable Amy Morton directed.

Next up:

Marin Theatre Company in spring 2015: http://marintheatre.org/productions/the-way-west/.

Hayley Finn will direct.

Hi! It’s not published yet. If for some reason you are near NY, there is a hard copy you can read at New Dramatists. If not, please check back. I hope it will be soon.

I’m on the artistic team for an award winning community theatre in Wimberley, TX and we would LOVE to look at the script for a future season. I know everyone’s been requesting it but central Texas is chomping at the bit too!
