EXCERPT
THEA
People don’t understand language, they don’t understand how to listen.
TOWNE
I’m listening, watch me listen. Claire knows I listen.
SOFIA
(from another table) Can you all be quiet?
CAM
Yeah come on. She trusted us to work.
THEA
Seriously. If Cam’s saying to shut up, you should. She never says anything.
CAM
Yes I do. I do.
TOWNE
Okay then, “Cam has spoken.” THE SCHOLARSHIP KIDS HAVE SPOKEN.
CAM
I’m not saying it that way. I just don’t want to get in trouble.
TOWNE
We don’t get “ in trouble” here! We have open and honest “discussions” about our choices.
THEA
Dude, shut up! Take a hint.
ANNA
No emotional intelligence.
TOWNE
Why is everybody bitching me out?
THEA
Don’t call me a bitch. Do not call me a bitch.
CAM
Don’t call her a bitch!
TOWNE
I didn’t!
THEA
It’s definitely not a good time for a white guy to be calling a woman a bitch.
