SHE
This Florida couple - or they weren’t a couple, but they went on a date, like a first date, and the guy said, Oh I know how to sail, let me take you sailing, but he didn’t, and then they got caught in something and they capsized?, and basically she kept herself alive for days doing the Dead Man’s Float.
HE
What happened to the guy?
SHE
(shrugs)
Uh—I don’t know.
HE
He didn’t make it?
SHE
I think...he didn’t.
HE
She left him?
SHE
Well, I think, hm.
I can’t totally remember but I think that in addition to not being a good sailor he also wasn’t a great swimmer?, you know? --
As she says this she realizes there is a real moral ambiguity to this story, but I mean, she has to finish telling it…
SHE
and I think maybe it was one of those situations where, you can’t save the other person too, you know?
HE
No. No. You can always save the other person. Always.
